In 1925, Carl Fisher (who built the Indianapolis Speedway in 1909) was developing Miami Beach and envisioned this area as the winter auto racing capital of the world.  He built the world’s fastest 1-1/4 mile “boardtrack” (a wooden, oval race track). The outstanding features of the track were the 50 degree banked turns. Turns banked this steep required a speed of at least 110 miles per hour to keep the race car from sliding down into the infield.  The turns at today’s Daytona International Speedway are banked at only 32 degrees. In 1926, the Fulford-Miami Speedway held its first and only racing event attracting a crowd of 20,000 spectators, some of whom paid up to $15 for a box seat.  It was located at the northern end of Flagler Boulevard (NE 19th Avenue) in today’s Sky Lake neighborhood before being demolished in the hurricane of 1926.?

Fulford-Miami Speedway. Ralph Hepburn has just won the pole for the February 22, 1926 300-mile race with a lap of 141.90mph. The car is a Miller Straight Eight. Barney Oldfield is on the left. Built by Carl Fisher (of Indianapolis Speedway fame), the 1-1/4 mile (with 50 degree banking!) Fulford-Miami Speedway  held only one race—the track was destroyed by a hurricane in September of 1926. This 1-1/4 mile board track was designed by Ray Harround and built for developer Carl Fisher in 1925. The AAA sanctioned race with a $30,000 purse was run before 20,000 people.  It was the world’s fastest wooden track due to the 50 degree banked turns.

So one day I just placed some time aside, and busted out the ole digital camera, and started doing what has been long past due. Update the pictures !! And I have to say I am pretty happy considering how quickly I turned them out. At first it took some time to get my grove back on with PhotoShop once again, but once I was in it, I was really into it. I still have a handful of posters still to update, but I have about 95% of them done. I still have a bunch that I have not listed on eBay or my Amazon Webstore until recently.

I also have listed some posters, that from past car shows and swap meets have been handled too rough. Some beat up torn and ripped prints that I think someone would love to have up in the garage. Those posters went to the auction block on ebay. It is very time consuming , taking pictures of the flaws and writing about  the damages, but it is fun. I really enjoy the artwork of all the posters.

These poster pictures turned out really great, this 1962 Ascot is a very popular print, and now looks almost as good online as the print . The blog, ebay store , and amazon webstore will look more cleaner and uniform with these new pix.

Been too much time since I have posted anything on the blog site. The Amazon WebStore is doing very well, much better than the eBay Store. But I think that is because more and more people are using the Amazon site these days. The days of the auction site has come and past, eBay has just become a large online storefront.
On eBay within the next few weeks I will be going thru the car show posters we have and listing the ripped and damaged ones that have got handled a little too much at the shows. These posters are going to be great for the guy who is looking for some really cool garage and shop art. I will have them at some really good prices. It will take some time to list them, for each one has its own flaw, rip, or mark on it , and I will have to identify it in the auction description. So if you are an eBay user , goto the Speedway Posters Store, and add me as a favorite so you can check out for the new and updated listings.

1945 Balboa Stadium Midget Racing Program Poster Print. Measures 17 inches wide x 22 inches tall. A great poster print that would look great in the den, office, garage or workshop. This is one of three poster prints from the Balboa Stadium. Wehave this one from 1945 , one from 1951 and another from 1960. I used to love down the street from Balboa Park down in San Diego. It is hard to imagine that not too long ago there used to be a race track down there. This print looks great all framed up, a simple clean design. Soon Father’s Day will be here and then gone. Not sure if you ordered today you would receive it in time enough for this weekend. Maybe if you ordered today or tomorrow and choose to use Priority Mail it will cut it close.
