1953 Paradise Mesa Drag Strip Poster Print

1953 Paradise Mesa Drag Strip Poster Print

57 years ago …!! it was 1953 at the Paradise Mesa Drag Strip. This poster print measures 17 inches wide x 22 inches tall. An awesome reproduction poster print.

At Paradise Mesa, a strip southwest of San Diego California which opened in 1951 on a a site once notorious for “chaotic illegal sprint bashes,” competition was about equally divided between two and four wheeled vehicles. At the end of a day’s racing it was often a cycle that emerged on top. Still, there were four wheeled machines competing which looked a little like something purposefully designed, as opposed to having merely been “stipped to the bare essentials.”  These machines were classified as “modifieds,”, a traditional dry lakes designation for a one-seater built on a narrowed frame.
It was at Paradise Mesa that many of the first drag racers emerged who became houshold names to hot rodders nationwide.

The front engine dragster is a is a race car purpose built for drag racing.

Now considered obsolete, the “rail”, “digger”, or “slingshot” dragster is now used mainly in nostalgia drag racing. Models range in length from 160–225 in (4,064–5,715 mm) in wheelbase. They were originally used in the highest class of drag racing, Top Fuel. The front engine dragster naturally came about due to engines for the most part, being in front of the driver. However they used and still do not use any form of suspension, so the top fuel and alcohol cars became very unstable. This due in part to their making 2,000–3,000 hp (1,491–2,237 kW), plus having poor tire technology, short wheelbases, and very light weight. (This was demonstrated to extremes in the Fuel Altereds.) The driver sits angled backward, over the top of the differential in a cockpit that is situated between the two rear tires, a design originating with Mickey Thompson in 1954, as a way of improving traction. This position led to many drivers being maimed when catastrophic clutch failures occurred.[citation needed]

Introduced with the start of organized drag racing, they were limited by the availability of traction from their rear slicks. A number of with four rear drive wheels were attempted, as well, including cars by Art Chrisman (along with his brother, Lloyd, and partner Frank Cannon), Bill Coburn, and Eddie Hill. (Coburn and the Chrisman brothers used twin engines, also.)

The rail was supplanted by the rear-engined car now standard when Don Garlits introduced Swap Rat XIV in 1971. He designed the car designed while in the hospital, himself suffering from severe injuries caused by an exploding clutch.

Getting Back on track with things. Been busy here and there. Father’s Day is right around the corner and I always get pretty busy around this time of year. And usually from about this time on thru to the year end it seems to stay pretty steady.

A lot of car shows to hit, and a lot or events to goto. There never seems to be enough time in the day to get all what I need done. One show going on this Father’s Day is the Eyeson Design Automotive Design Show. We donated some prints for this very special annual event. You will see the prints on display next to cars from that era. The “American Racing: From Dirt to Bricks” display will have all kinds of vintage race cars.

I will not able to attend this years LA Roadster up in Pomona this time around. But I am looking forward to checking out “Event Coverage” on the HAMB while on the road. I have been seeing a lot of postings in the Minnesota area, so thought I would post up a poster print from the 1963 Minnesota Dragway. An AWESOME print !! It measures 14 inches wide x 22 inches tall, and the event took place in May 29-30, …heck that was only a few weeks ago ……and BACK 46 YEARS ago. ! Amazing how time flies. I know I posted this one once before, but I REALLY dig this print.

I dig these posters so much. It makes for such a fun hobby. When ever I put together these orders to get shipped out, I always lay them out and take a look at the prints before I roll it up for the tube and say “Man , this is an awesome poster !!” .. or “I LOVE the art work on this one !!” . And most of the time my wife will laugh at me in the background, because I say it so often. And I tell her they ARE cool, they ARE awesome. Like the one today , the 1956 Dodge City Motorcycle Racing Poster Print. The motorcycle racing prints are great. This is simple art , very classy . This 50′s reproduction print measures 14.25 inches wide x 22 inches tall. A nice tall print that looks fantastic all framed up. Framing these totally takes them up to another notch. Very cool retro art deco. National Motorcycle Rally. World Famous Riders A.M.A. Sanction. Dodge City Kansas. Labor Day Weekend. Sept 1-2-3, 1956.

Free shipping thru the Amazon WebStore on orders of $30 or more. Father’s Day is coming up soon, that mean the LA Roadster show is soon too. An awesome show to attend. So for this Father’s Day buy him a cool poster for his garage or workshop. You know he will love it. It still amazes me how many people use Amazon more than eBay these days. And also how much eBay is trying to be like Amazon with stuff like “Daily Deals”  and such. I am not sure what website I found , but it does a comparison when you plug in two websites addresses in. And the graph that came up was so impressive. The Amazon hit counter was climbing and has been for a few years now, as for eBay it was down down down. I know everywhere I go these days its Amazon, Amazon , Amazon all over sites with item links to products. They totally know what they are doing.

Yup, the title is NOT a misprint. I am blowing out these 1966 Oroville Boat Drag Racing Program Poster Prints for a limited time. Both in my eBay store, and the Amazon WebStore.

It is kinda funny , because it is not like I am not swamped as it is, but I thought it would be fun to pick one of the 100 plus posters I have and create a sale. I like promoting the site , along with all the awesome artwork available. It is fun to try new things. Throw together a few Google AdWord ideas, go in the Amazon WebStore and come up with a promo package, and then eBay with some marketing.

Plus it is a new month, things are going great and I enjoy giving good deals. Or maybe I had too much coffee and just going with it. Either way, May is going to be exciting.

Take a look thru the posters and enjoy !

If the Oroville Poster Promo is a hit, maybe we will bust out a few more poster sales in the next few months. Heck, Father’s Day is just around the corner, and I know I have a bunch of ideas for that. Once Mother’s Day is over I will be getting onto that.

There are a bunch of car shows and swap meets that we might hit, we will just have to see.

Starting today May 1st we are goin to run some poster promos for HAMB and HubGarage members on the Amazon WebStore. And for those who do NOT belong to either, you need to go and sign up. Both sites are outstanding. The HAMB is packed with young and old hot rodders loaded with tons of good tips. You can spend hours if not DAYS just looking and reading thru the HAMB board. Today is my favorite of days on the HAMB , because it is “Friday Art Show”.  A lot of awesome talent . Graphic Designs, Pinstriping, T-Shirt Designs, Metal Car Art work, Photography, and some killer sketches !!

Then there is the HubGarage ! A look into everyones garage. A site that I am still new to. HubGarage has a little more broader audience of car guys than the HAMB. Still soooo much to see, and so little time.
